Girly Grunge

With my new hair, I've been trying different styles to see which vibe suits my current look best.

I can't quite seem to figure it out-- but, I felt like today I came close.

I wanted to go a little more grungy with my makeup-- doing a smokey eye and contoured cheeks.

But my natural fashion instinct always desires a little bit of girly-ness.

So here's what I came up with:

My plaid shirt-dress is from my dear exchange sister Luciana from Brazil. Lu, if you're reading this-- I'm sorry I'm wearing your dress haha, can't remember if you handed this one down to me or just left it here!
I felt like this grey-blue color went well with my smokey eyes and gave the grunge effect I was desiring.

But, to make this look "girly grunge" I relied heavily on accessories.
My charcoal grey bag is from Forever 21.

If you couldn't tell by now, I'm obsessed with rings. I grabbed several of my favorite gold ones and put them on my non-dominant hand. Layers of rings are really in right now so I figured why not?

My riding boots are from Forever 21 (imagine that)
I felt like boots were a great way to add the "grunge" effect; but also, riding boots are a more girly boot in my opinion. So it balanced out.

My bronze pearl necklace is from Forever 21. I'm obsessed with long necklaces if I haven't made that clear already. :)

I chose to wear my big, rambunctious, fake pearl earrings-- because, YOLO.

Oh and we must not forget my simple tan waist belt-- came with a dress from Forever 21. Waist belts are great to make something baggy more flattering.

So the moral of today is-- be a little spontaneous with your style every now and then! If you wanna give off a different aura today-- do it! But remember to stay true to yourself too! Balance is everything.

Rain or Shine

Any Floridian knows that the term "sunshine state" is quite possibly the most misused nickname ever.

I feel like our license plates should say "rain rain go away" at the bottom.

-_-

Anyways, yesterday was a rainy day.

I thought.

Then it turned decent on me.

Luckily, my outfit worked either way.

My olive green jacket is from Charlotte Russe. It provided just the right amount of coverage I needed for the morning drizzle.

I dressed up the jacket with my chic white blouse from H&M. This was a steal I found during my time in NYC. Love the empire waist and texture of the fabric.

Because it was so hot and muggy, I figured leggings were a more "breathable" way to go. I chose my basic navy blue ones from Forever 21.
I love to wear my rain boots when I feel like I can. Walking through puddles with sandals or flats is never fun. I also love the beige with this color combo. You can find a similar pair at Loehmann's.

I kept the accessories light; wearing a couple of bronze bangles and basic stud earrings.

Chambray Ombre'

New ombre' hair calls for a more laid back style.

Today I chose my favorite chambray shirt to be the main piece of my outfit.

Since it was slightly cool this morning, I decided to layer this chambray shirt (Kohl's) over a casual grey t-shirt from Forever 21.

My dark skinnies are from Forever 21 and my studded flats are from Rainbow.

For jewelry, I chose this eagle necklace from H&M and a simple gold midi ring from American Eagle.

Hipster Casual

Mondays.
Aren't they just beautiful? (sarcasm)

I am so appreciative of the Moe's franchise. Moe Mondays literally are the best idea, like, ever. I mean what's going to brighten your spirits more on a Monday than that tasty $5 piece of heaven-- that is a Moe's burrito?

Today, I decided to ban myself from going to Moe's for lunch (my normal Monday routine) so as to save my wallet and encourage my study habits.
Needless to say, I ended up there for dinner. :)

Now I'm rambling.
Anyways, the one thing I decided could make my Monday almost as bright as Moe's could would be looking cute and comfortable.

So here is my rendition of "hipster casual":

I decided on my basic black leotard from Pac Sun paired with my favorite pair of baggy Rider cut offs. I added a thin brown belt accented with beads from American Eagle.
My brass cross necklace is from Country Dollar. I also wore my favorite pair of fake pearl earrings and 3 fun, brass/gold rings.

Spring Fever

I love Florida. In the last moments of February, we are enjoying sunny and 75 weather.

You can't help but smile when you realize-- though it may be premature-- that Spring is in the air.

I love Spring. It is my absolute favorite time of the year. Mostly because my birthday occurs in the Spring-- but, also, because of the fashion opportunities you are presented with.

You can wear shorts if you please, or floral sun dresses, or sheer long-sleeve blouses; you never really get too hot or too cold.

Although Spring isn't quite here, I decided to dress more for the weather than the season today. I had Spring Fever.

My ivory lace-accented blouse is a recent purchase from GITI. I love the hippie-esque sleeves.

I paired this shirt with my favorite pair of American Eagle skinny jeans. Super stretchy and comfortable; great wash for most tops in my wardrobe.

For shoes, I chose my basic brown boots from Rainbow. They were a steal that I got about 2 years ago now. The laces are a bit much, but I always get complimented when I wear them, so I continue to keep them in wardrobe.

I wanted to use my accessories to accentuate the hipster/flower-child look I was going for. I chose this funky gold & teal necklace from Country Dollar*, my two favorite midi rings, and a basic pair of fake diamond earrings.
I also wore my favorite floral bandeau from Urban Outfitters underneath my shirt since it is so sheer and to give it a springtime accent.

*Country Dollar is an awesome store located in Tallahassee, Florida. They have hundreds of accessories, each $1. It's just as fun and fabulous as it sounds.

Parpadelle Bolognese

One of the most essential things you need to know about Rambo is that she loves Italian food.

I am so excited. I learned this past weekend that my last name indeed has ties to the country of Italy. The original Fugates were apparently French and decided to "flee" to Italy. ("Fugate" means "to flee" in Italian)

Perhaps encouraged by my newly discovered roots, this weekend I had a huge hankering for my original recipe of Parpadelle Bologonese.

Here's what you'll need: (feeds roughly three)
3 sweet italian sausages
1 container crumbled Feta
1 small jar traditional Prego sauce
1/4 cup tomato paste
1 package parpadelle noodles
1 small yellow onion
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp. sugar
3/4 cup red wine
2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

1) To begin, pour your olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
2) Finely dice your onion and add it in with the olive oil.
3) Remove your sausage from the cases, add them in with the onions. Break into chunks with wooden spoon and cook over stovetop until meat is completely cooked.
4) Add whipping cream and stir. Let simmer for about 2 minutes.
5) Add wine and stir. Let simmer for another 2 minutes.
6) Add tomato paste and stir. Let simmer for yet another 2 minutes.
7) Begin to prepare another pot for boiling your noodles. About 6 cups of water over high heat until water reaches a boiling temperature. Then add noodles and allow to boil for 3 minutes maximum. Immediately drain and let cool off in a colander.
8) Add Prego to sauce and stir. Let simmer until noodles are done.
9) Add sugar to sauce and stir.
10) Bon Appetit! Dress your noodles with sauce and feta to your liking.

Hope you enjoy this recipe! I know I did :)

3. Crazy Katie's Handwriting

This girl cracks me up. She is an absolute genius. But I just don't know how she studies with this crazy handwriting! Stresses me out just looking at it. But nonetheless, brought a smile to my face this week.

4. Taylor LaRoue

This girl is awesome. She brightened my week by buying me a delicious cup of coffee at Pascal's this Wednesday! Her positive attitude about life inspires me. A beautiful woman that truly reflects the love of Jesus.

5. Pine Woods

Peace and serenity in one scene. I've always had an obsession with woods. They make me wanna just go sit all on my lonesome and read.

6. Pancakes

Weird fact about Rambo: she loves pancakes with no syrup.

I was so excited this morning when using my griddle I got for Christmas. The fact that I could make 10 pancakes at once was just mind-boggling. It was very joyous.
But those suckas are tasty, seriously.

And another weird fact: I love the batter almost as much as the pancake itself.

Sorry it's been a busy week and ya'll got two rounds of marvelings in a row…
Peace and Love!
